The omnipotent color-wheel gods, also known as Pantone, released the esteemed Color of the Year for 2015 today. The Color of the Year is the predicted staple color for all things fashion, home décor, makeup, etc. Last year, Pantone named Radiant Orchid as the chosen color—a very pigmented shade of magenta/purple. Not all were thrilled by it, but it eventually grew on us as a great accent color.
Marsala is the earthy reddish-brown tone that’s taken the spotlight for this year, and there have been many mixed reactions (Nylon’s online blog likened it to “dried period blood” and “the color you get when you mix all the finger paints together”). It’s somewhere in between a brown and burgundy but has a very distinct feel to it. When paired just right, we think Pantone may be onto something—a fresh take on a neutral that can very well take interior decorating by a storm.

Pantone released this statement about the color:
Sensual and bold, delicious Marsala is a daringly inviting tone that nurtures; exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul. Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this robust shade incorporates the warmth and richness of a tastefully fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots point to a sophisticated, natural earthiness.

We think there might be potential in Marsala, so we’re gonna root for this underdog. What do you think of Marsala?
