I’ve really hit a skin care stride in the past month and it all started with a trip to the local beauty store. Back in November, I accompanied my sister to pick out a new foundation. In order find the right match, we sought the help of one of the workers and landed a pleasant, yet blunt, lady named Olga. She was quick to sit my sister down and start removing her makeup. In the midst of this, this she states in her Russian accent “Oh, you have much redness. We fix that”, and scurries away to find the right product.
She tested multiple colors before settling on one and raving about how much improved my sister now looked. Now this had become quite an ordeal and I was heavily involved in asking questions and analyzing my sister’s new and improved face. Olga was so pleased that she turned to me and said, “Okay, you next.” Even though I wasn’t shopping for new foundation, I could not resist the offer to be the subject of Olga’s intense scrutiny.
She begins to remove the foundation I was wearing and bluntly observes, “Oh, you have acne,” to which I was slightly taken aback by because while I do have a constant supply of pimples, I never really considered it acne. I always thought it was normal for girls to have zits. But having Olga point it out made me re-think my prior assessment.
Olga, of course had a solution; she announces, “You need Mario Badescu: Acne Starter Kit,” and leads me in the direction of said miracle product.
The starter kit comes with the cleansing face wash, a special cucumber toner, moisturizer with SPF 17, a drying mask, and a small pot of drying cream. I was especially surprised to see that for all these products, the price was fairly reasonable at $30 for the pack, which is significantly less than other acne kits such as Proactive, which is $39.95. They’re able to keep the prices low without sacrificing their product quality.
What really sold me however, was the emphasis on calming the skin. While other brands are advertising harsh scrubs and ingredients such as salicylic acid and alcohol, Mario Badescu uses natural ingredients like chamomile and aloe to calm irritated skin. The regimen is fairly simple: you wash with the cleanser, follow with toner, and every couple of days you put the drying mask on problem areas. Just a side note, if you take nothing else away from this, the drying cream is incredible. I’m a chronic pimple popper, which explains my acne scars, but now when I see a pimple forming I just put some drying cream on it before I go to sleep and by morning the pimple is almost unnoticeable.
In just a month I’ve noticed a major difference in my skin’s appearance and number of breakouts. Even my darks spots and acne scars appear less noticeable which has decreased my need for heavy foundation. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my skin recently that I just had to share the reason why, and for someone who never really believed face wash was a big deal it’s kind of a big deal! Shouts out to Olga, the skin-saving goddess.
