THINKING OUTSIDE THE PUMPKIN: HALLOWEEN COSTUME IDEAS

So if you’re like me and living in a college time warp where the days, nights, and skipped classes all blend together into a hazy memory, then you may have missed the fact that it is now October. This means Halloween is beating down on us like a masked figure at the end of a dark corridor and you have no idea what you’re going to be. Don’t freak out (that never solves anything)! I’ve got some tricks up my sleeve to help you look like the hottest and most original person at the party. Here are some simple costume ideas that won’t break the bank and you can make them as modest or skimpy as you want; no judgment here!
INDIANA JONES
This is one is traditionally a guy costume, which makes for a fun female adaptation and it’s super simple. All you need is a pair of brown or khaki shorts (or pants if you prefer), a khaki button up shirt, and a brown bomber jacket. Finish it off with a whip and brown fedora, and you can also wear a brown side purse for ultimate convenience.

CHER HOROWITZ
I can’t take all the credit for this one as I did get the idea after watching Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” video, but nonetheless I think it’s so cute! This Clueless costume should be easy to find on your average Forever 21 trip or you can hit up your local thrift shop. Even if you didn’t want to do the whole costume you could easily skip the jacket and just pair a gold vest with a plaid yellow skirt, knee high socks, and your best valley girl attitude. Oh, and it doesn’t hurt to have blonde hair.

DAENERYS TARGARYAN
This is one of my favorites, mainly because I want to be Daenerys and anyone who watches Game of Thrones would probably agree. This costume really hinges on three key ingredients: silvery blonde hair (this may require a wig or hair color), dark, bold eyebrows, and a dragon perched on the shoulder. Once you’ve gotten that down, throw on a Grecian style dress and some strappy sandals and go claim your Iron Throne, Khaleesi!

ESMERELDA
Since she’s not technically a princess, Esmeralda tends to get overlooked each year but she’s always been one of my favorite characters and a fairly easy costume to pull off. You’re going to need a green corset, purple skirt or tutu, and accessorize with lots of gold jewelry and a pink headband. Have fun with your hair by making it really big and curly; make the eyes pop with dark liner on both top and bottom, and add some purple or green eye shadow to really dramatize the look.

SALOON GIRL
So I’m not going to lie, I might have overspent on this costume last year but I really liked it and I figure I can use the same basic pieces but change up the costume from year to year! The saloon girl look is just a corset, skirt/tutu, some fishnets, and a feather hat of some sort (I got mine at Claire’s for $7). Throw on some red lipstick and you'll be the Wild West star of every party!
